william and kate meet obama

Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle to London yesterday in their first royal duty as a married couple.

The couple, who have have just returned from a ten-day honeymoon in the Seychelles, greeted the Obamas in the grand 1844 room of Buckingham Palace as they flew in for U.S. state visit.

Prince William, 28, and Kate, 29, who were displaying golden tans from their private-island retreat, looked thrilled as they chatted with Mr Obama, 49, and Michelle, 47.

A Clarence House spokeswoman confirmed that the two couples talked informally for around 20 minutes. They are believed to have spoken about the Royal couple's April wedding and their upcoming trip to California.


Kate wore a figure-hugging Reiss dress, which retails for $340, for the occasion and the high-street store's website later crashed as eager shoppers attempting to buy it themselves

The Obamas are due to spend two nights at the palace as guests of the Queen. Their UK trip came after they were forced to leave Ireland a day early to avoid ash the air from the Icelandic volcano.
